A new $65 million park running almost a mile in front of the New Orleans Convention Center was completed in the fall of 2020. The New Orleans Convention Center serves an anchor along the Mississippi River, encompassing some sixty acres of key real estate that borders the French Quarter, Central Business District and Warehouse District. Led by MAEDR with SMM as the landscape architect, the park includes a road diet, reducing 4 lanes of traffic to 2 lanes, and uses the reclaimed street right-of-way to create both a ‘front porch’ for the Convention Center and a vibrant, 24/7/365 urban community park.
All stormwater will be collected and cleaned on-site through the use of green infrastructure integrated into the park design. The park creates a series of unique, flexible spaces that accommodate a wide range of programmatic activities for both the convention center and New Orleans.
