Butzel Family Park

Butzel Family Park is a transformative, community-based park renovation that honors and celebrates its long-lasting presence in the community. Based on extensive community input, the design re-establishes the park’s prominence and the visibility in the neighborhood, while expanding the opportunities for social gatherings, family outings and children’s play areas.

Butzel Family Park is a 4.2 acre park and a focal point of the Islandview / Greater Villages neighborhood planning and city-lead reinvestment strategy. The Butzel Family Recreation Center—located within the park—operates with year-long programming for the community. Working closely to meet the needs and priorities of the City and the community, SMM led several interactive workshops with the Islandview/Greater Villages communities in order to inform and shape the park design.
